We are a completely self contained studio with
in-house foley, ADR, audio cleaning, special fx and
mixing capabilities. With close attention to detail
and a collaborative workflow,
SoundSpace is much more than a
typical "post sound house". It becomes more of a 2nd home for
the films and the filmmakers during the sound design process.

Dialogue Editing and Production Sound
repair___
Narrative and
Documentary filmmakers are both susceptible to problematic
production sound. Even the best films and docs can be
compromised by unavoidable production problems (Over
modulation, background air conditioners, generators, camera
noise, etc). We can imrpove almost anything,
and in most cases completely repair production sound
problems.
Just have a few shots
of bad audio? let us work on your clips so you can feel
confident using the footage while picture
editing.

FX____________________________________________
Sound FX can be on-screen or off,
and play a vital role in creating rich, cinematic
environments. A film can be sparse and
naturalistic or stylized and abstract, but in both cases the
sound design is often created in layers to achieve the desired
aesthetic.
We have a large sound library that suits many
situations, and we also record sounds in the field as
often as possible for each project. There
is nothing worse than hearing a canned sound effect in a film,
so through original recordings and careful processing and
editing of library sounds, we achieve unique soundscapes for
each project.

Foley________________________________________
One of the first steps of the sound design process is to
screen the film while spotting for foley and FX.
During these screenings, a
comprehensive list of sounds is created.
Those that are considered to be “foley” sounds are
recorded in our foley room where items like rusty
nails and a pair of flip-flops will become vital elements to
your film.
Foley sounds, unlike other sound FX, are performed while
watching the film in real time. Finally all of the foley
tracks are combined into a single audio “stem”, and integrated
into the full soundtrack of the
film.

ADR__________________________________________
Although it stands for Automated Dialogue
Replacement, there’s not really anything automated
about it. Having an actor speak into a tub of water, face the
corner of the room while delivering lines, or being
intentionally riled by the director before a take is more of
an accurate depiction of one of our ADR
sessions.

Music
Editing_______________________________
Whether squeezing composed music into a new
picture edit or blending two songs seamlessly together
for a sound track CD, music editing is one of our
specialties.
With minute attention to rhythm
and pinpoint editing, almost anything is
possible.

 |
Mixing_________________________________________
We can mix
in mono, stereo, 4-channel surround, or 5.1 surround
sound.
Our mixing process is
seamlessly integrated into all of the work that precedes it.
This makes the final mix very efficient and leaves less room
for last minute surprises. Depending on
your project’s deliverables and release requirements, we may
complete the entire mix in-house, or we may prepare
an extensive pre-mix which then goes on to be finished
and mastered at one of our mix partners (Magno, Sound One, or
DuArt).
Our goal with the pre-mix is to
minimize the time spent in larger, more costly
facilities. While
a traditional final mix may take 10-15 days or more,
mixes that follow our pre-mixes take only 4-6
days.

Commentary___________________________
Adding a commentary track to your
project is fun to do and raises the production value of
the final DVD. Whether it's just one person, or the
entire cast, we will make sure each person is clearly audible
and occupies their own virtual space in the audio field
(eliminating confusion about who's talking). Also our
locked-to-picture setup will allow for fast editing and
re-taking of scenes if necessary. We will also be able to
output the final isolated track or mixed with the film sound
low in the background on whatever format your DVD programmer
requires.

ProTools
Rental________________________________
Whenever one of our studios is
vacant during business hours, it is available for hourly
rental. If you need to pre-mix,
edit dialogue or work with music, SoundSpace is a
relaxed yet professional studio to work in. The
current studio rental rate ranges from $95-$125 per hour
depending upon the nature and scope of the work. Working
without an engineer requires proof of proficiency with
ProTools and basic studio
gear.
